Internet Phone Calls & Dating Services

No matter what dating service you decide to join, there will come a point when you want to here the other person's voice. Some of the better dating services will make this easy. All you need is a microphone plugged in to your computer and to be logged on. Click on the person you want to talk to, make sure your speakers are switched on and chat away.

Unfortunately not all online dating services can afford to provide this service for their users. This is particularly likely to be true if you've joined one of the cheaper services. There are other options if you're not comfortable with giving out your voice telephone number at this stage though.

If you like the idea of meeting online for a chat, and your dating service doesn't provide this option, you may like to give one of the instant messenger applications a try.

In the latest version of MSN Messenger for example you can chat online using a microphone in much the same way as you would using one of the more expensive dating services. Even better, if you have a web cam you will be able to use this too. In this situation, the dating service becomes more of a meeting ground before you get to know each other using a different application. This may be cheaper too if you don't wish to continue paying the dating service's fees.

Sometimes you will want to call another person's phone directly though. There are a number of services now available that make this possible. Most of the time it will require a small download of an application that looks like a normal phone keypad. You simply connect to the internet, type in the phone number and click "call". You can then chat via your computer to the other person on their normal phone.

This is not something that any dating services offer at present. Also it is likely to cost a small amount per minute of use, in a similar way to normal phone use. However, as the internet covers the entire planet, there is a possibility the person you want to call is on the other side of the planet. This would obviously be expensive to call them using a normal phone.

Making internet phone calls will be a lot cheaper and you may be surprised to know that the sound quality is just as good, if not better than a normal phone call, particularly over long distances. Who was it that said long distance relationships where hard?!
