LavaLife is split into three main areas: dating, relationships and intimate encounters.

The search facility works well enough. However, if you’re not from the United States, Canada or Australia, there doesn’t seem to be any obvious way of narrowing the search down to a particular area like you can with Match.com for example. That said, you can refine your search easily if you’re only interested in seeing members with pictures for example.

One thing I really like about this site is the back stage feature. This lets you explore a person in greater detail by allowing you to view more pictures and access their other personal back stage information. All helps!

Their instant messaging system is a very prominent part of this site. It sits in the top-right corner of your screen at all times ready to be put into action. It also lets you know how many people are currently online. In this instance, 1562 people online no less!

You can show interest in someone by sending them a smile at which point they receive an email to let them know. All very efficient and works very well! Alternatively make use of that great instant messaging system if they’re online.

This site works on a system of contact credits which is different to the normal monthly subscription charges that most sites make. This means that you only pay for what you use. Each time you use the instant messaging system for example you get deducted a small amount from you credit fund. This is great if you’re not constantly wanting to talk with every single person you see. However, if you find yourself using it a lot, it may actually work out cheaper to use one of the more conventional dating sites that I have reviewed. It depends on your usage.

As per normal, it’s totally free to search through the members to see if anyone takes your fancy anyway. So you could just see how it goes and decide if you want to get involved after you’ve tried it out.

The other great feature on this site, in addition to back stage, is the slide show. This simply scrolls through matching profiles one at a time and you just click on the ones you like. When you’re feeling bored this is a constant feed of entertainment.
